spring into cleaning

people hate to clean. more than that, they rarely have the time or energy to sit down and sift through the remains left from years of not dealing with their large quantities of stuff. this is actually a disease that people have. the name you ask. um...well, the technical term is hoarding but my term is you-best-be-throwing-it-out-itis. and although the majority of folks prefer to hold on to the ugly, oversized, underused, re-re-recycled crap in their over-crammed closets, the truth is that if you haven't seen, touched or used something in six months your best bet is to toss it and have it become someone else's newfound crappy treat. odd the mass of crap that piles up after decades of simply throwing things in a drawer, closet or other dark and dungenous place. luckily, there's hope! allow me to assist you in the grumbly tossing process!

never did you imagine how empowering throwing old junk away could be. some may like to clean their home but oddly enough, most people won't re-organize a space after cleaning. and on top of organizing, most people don't trust themselves enough to begin decorating or creating a space filled with memorabilia, meaningful trinkets or useful resources that also add a personal touch, all while making things aesthetically pleasing. with that said, my form of home/office organizing is really an art form because it combines all of these.

and so that's where i come in! i have been organizing, decorating and re-designing spaces for people since i was in grade school. hard to believe that someone might actually enjoy the process of making sense out of chaos, but that is what draws me to the work.

i live for helping others and this i have found, is a great way to make a lasting impression in people's lives. everytime they walk into their home or office, they feel a bit better about their day. that's what it's about!

tips for getting organized:

  1. allow alotted time of at least 2-4 hours to organize a single space in your home. (people will try organizing their entire home in 30 minutes and wonder why they are left feeling anxious, overwhelmed and peeved at the whole idea)
  2. bring the necessary items of: trash bags, filing binder or organizational containers, windex, old towel or rag to wipe items down. (paper towels aren't sensible as you just throw them away, REUSE your rags).
  3. wear comfortable clothes and wear sensible shoes that you are able to workout in. (think of this as a mini workout because in all actuality, it turns into one!)
  4. limit distractions (don't have your laptop nearby, limit phone calls during your time alotted. you will find you get into a groove and get it done faster)
rule of thumb: if you haven't seen it, worn it, thought about it, missed it, been looking for it, had to have it in the past 6 months, TOSS it! the next 6 months won't be any different, promise.
when putting items back, think about what you use the most and place in an easy-to-get-to spot in your designated space.

the finished product: enjoy discovering your space… sifting through your items is like taking a walk down memory lane most of the time!

decorating comes in once you've recycled, thrown away and re-claimed your space back with the items that you want, need and use. decorating and design tips to come!
