a page from her book

By now, everyone has gotten word of pin-up Bettie Page's death at age 85. It's been a few days since her passing but what the iconic feminine stood for will endure. Her flame-red lips, those dangerous curves and innocently seductive demeanor created a new way of viewing and being a sexy woman.  Every woman has unknowingly learned a lesson from Miss Page on the topic of female sexuality and have the ability to showcase it a bit more openly because of her. She came and went, but she certainly left her mark.

Playful with a purpose, Bettie proclaimed that being a woman was more than baking, being a man's wife and denouncing one's own desires. Her pictures paved the way for Hugh and his bunnies, even the seductive poses that A-list celebs are able to shoot on GQ, Esquire and hundreds more. She didn't know it at the time, but Bettie wrote a book that all of us have ripped a page from.

Gretchen Mol played her in the 2005 bio-pic "The Notorious Bettie Page" (the trailer is below).
