Viola Davis has been nominated for a Golden Globe for her portrayal of a mother desperately hoping to keep her son in school with Philip Seymour Hoffman and Meryl Streep. Watch this powerful clip from Doubt.

Out of all of this year's nominations, Viola Davis is the only African American in the running for a globe. Since seeing her as the strict but sincere house-arrest officer in Disturbia, I've thought she brought a depth and believable person to her characters. 

Congrats, Viola. With or without a win, you've managed to break out in this role and thankfully they just happened to be watching.
